SMITH & WESSON NEW MODEL #3 TARGET REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Russian. SN 22477. Nickel finish, 6-1/2″ keyhole bbl, and Smith & Wesson target sights with Smith & Wesson embossed hard rubber grips. Accompanied by a Smith & Wesson factory letter identifying this revolver as having been shipped December 10, 1887 to Mr. A.C. Gould, Boston, Mass. Letter further states “Mr. Gould was a target shooter and one of the founders of the modern pistol course of fire”. CONDITION: Fine plus. All matching including the grips. Overall retains about 90% orig nickel with fine pimpling on the bbl and frame. Back strap has flaked spots with a dark patina showing through. Center sideplate screw appears to have been cleaned and other screws slightly battered. Grips show moderate wear. Mechanics are fine, very bright shiny bore. 4-57039 JR387 (2,750-3,750)
