RARE EXHIBIT SUPPLY “PHOTOSCOPE” CARD VIEWING MACHINE. A finely restored card viewing machine manufactured in the early 20th century by Exhibit Supply Company. Upon depositing a penny a limited number of stereo cards would be shown in sequence to the viewer. Of course one would then have to deposit another penny to see the other pictures of the ravishing beauty pictured on the marquee! There are five sets of pictures; it takes five coins to see all of the pictures the machine has to offer. Popular in penny arcades, saloons, candy stores, etc., these machines were work horses of the time with little attention needed or mechanical failures incurred during operation. The proprietor would occasionally change the viewing cards to maintain interest and thus generate more income for the location. This handsome machine is constructed of oak and has numerous nickel plated castings, most appear to female fairy-like creatures, embellishing the cabinet. Many manufacturers produced versions of this type of machine including Caille, Mills, Mutoscope, etc. However, this particular example is a rarer and more difficult model to find. SIZE: 71-1/2″ h x 16-1/2″ w x 15″ d. CONDITION: Restored cosmetically as well as mechanically and in overall sound condition. 1-8336 JL (4,000-6,000)
