EARLY MARTIALLY MARKED 1ST MODEL SMITH & WESSON SCHOFIELD REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Schofield. SN 451. Blue finish, 7″ keyhole bbl, altered front sight with matching numbered 2-pc walnut grips. Butt strap has a small “US” at the toe. There appears to be the outline of a cartouche near the bottom of the left grip. CONDITION: As noted, about fine. Traces of orig finish & case colors are all that remain of the finish on this fine old rev. Balance is a smooth gray patina with a scattered spot or two of light rust. Screws are fine, retaining some finish, with one or two slipped edges. Right grip has a chip at the toe with some battering on the bottom, a chip out of the left side and some scratches, showing heavy wear and a fine old patina. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-56405 JR375 (2,500-3,500)
