SCARCE WINCHESTER FIRST MODEL HOTCHKISS SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 45-55. SN 1200. Standard carbine with 24” tapered rnd bbl, square base front sight & ski jump ladder rear sight with a “C” on left side. Left side of receiver has usual markings & serial number. There is a swivel & ring in left side of stock & the rotary safety/cutoff in right side of stock. Mounted in an uncheckered, 1-pc stock with fluted brass forend cap with hinged door concealing a 2-section cleaning rod. Stock has tiny “RDR” inspector initials below bottom tang and it has a smooth carbine buttplate. Bbl, over chamber area, is marked with the “VP” & eagle inspector stamps along with a small “R”, a “U.S.” and an anchor. Stock, including forend tip, has an overall length of 32” and is without a cartouche. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains an overall light to medium plum/brown patina with a few miscellaneous nicks. Receiver & bolt retain a plum/blue patina and trigger guard about 80% orig blue with scattered spots of moderate pitting. Buttplate matches the bbl. Stock appears to be new & unissued with a few minor nicks & scratches and a couple of small bruises near toe with another on left side by action. The brass forend cap is not now and never was plated. The safety/cutoff screws are missing & were never installed. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-59061 (2,500-3,500)
