FINE RAMSDELL TARGET RIFLE WITH TELESCOPE. CAL. 45. 31-1/2″”part octagonal bbl with false muzzle and bullet starter. Marked “C V. Ramsdell. Maker. Bangor” on the left quarter flat of the bbl. The full-length telescope has broken crosshairs and the optics are out of focus. The lockplate and silver-plated furniture are all lightly engraved. The nameplate on the cheekpiece is engraved “W.A. Frye” in script. This rifle was obtained by Eldon from H. Robbins Ritter who also handled the disposition of the U.S. Cartridge Co. Collection. In Ritter’s list it is listed as illustrated in C. N. Sawyers pioneer work Our Rifles plate 12, No. 2. CONDITION: Fine. 90% brown on the bbl with a couple of spots of light surface rust that has been cleaned and slightly dull casehardening colors on the breech plug. 98% of the silver remains on the plated parts. Wood has only minor handling marks. Action is excellent. 4-52684 FS165 (1,500-2,500)
