AESTHETIC MOVEMENT MARQUETRY AND ROSEWOOD MARBLE TOP CHEST WITH MIRROR. Third quarter 19th century. The rectangular mirror plate within a rectangular surround flanked by ionic columns, the fluting cast with brass ormolu. The frieze with cast-brass central cartouches flanked by cast rosettes within pediments. The arched crest molded with C-scrolls and centering a finely detailed female bust. The chest with green marble top fitted with a pair of aligned short drawers over a pair of covered drawers, all with floral marquetry, flanked by free-standing, conforming ionic columns. The whole on a stepped plinth with ormolu trim and raised on suppressed ball feet. The marquetry combined with quality of workmanship have similarities to furniture produced by the Herter Brothers workshop. SIZE: 82″ h x bottom case 41″ x 24″. CONDITION: The chest and mirror with very fine patina and older surfaces. The marble slab a later replacement of high quality. In very good overall condition. One scroll on the column capitol proper right side base missing. 9-97413 (8,500-12,500)
