WINCHESTER MODEL 1883 3RD MODEL HOTCHKISS ARMY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 84139. Standard 3-band Army rifle with 32″ rnd bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug with 1200 yard ski jump rifle rear sight. It has case colored receiver & full length forestock with slotted head wiping rod & straight stock with musket buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbl retains 90-92% strong orig blue turning plum. Front & rear bbl bands are a blue/gray patina with the middle band retaining most of its orig blue. Receiver retains virtually all of its brilliant case colors, slightly faded toward the front. Forestock has a repaired crack on the left side & another on the right near the tip & retains most of a restored finish. Buttstock is sound with nicks, dings & scratches & retains about 70% orig finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore with some fine pitting in the grooves. 4-56457 JR646 (3,000-5,000)
