SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1888 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 507231. Standard rifle with 32-1/2″ rnd bbl, square base front sight with sheet metal sight hood and a Buffington rear sight. It has a rnd ramrod bayonet and is mounted in a 1-pc, walnut stock with two bands & “1890” dated “SWP” cartouche. A canvas Nobuckl sling accompanies it. Butt trap contains an 1879 Springfield tool. Entire rifle is covered with a heavy coating of old dried oil or wax. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 93-95% orig blue turning plum toward the muzzle. Breechblock retains most of its orig fading case colors. Lockplate & hammer retain about 80% orig finish. Wood is sound with nicks, dings & scratches and retains a fine, hand rubbed oil finish.
