SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1888 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 551671. Standard rifle with 32-1/2″ bbl, square base front sight and Buffington rear sight. It has the “1884” dated breechblock and usual markings on the lockplate. It is mounted in a 1-pc. nicely figured walnut stock with rectangular “SWP/1892” cartouche. It has two bands with stacking & sling swivels on the upper one and has the rnd ramrod bayonet. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus, possibly unfired. Retaining virtually all of its orig arsenal finish to both metal & wood. Bbl has a few scattered pinpoints of rust. Breechblock case colors are brilliant. Wood has a fine dark finish with crisp cartouche. Crisp mechanics, brilliant shiny bore. A fine addition to anyone’s collection. 4-55103 JR39 (1,250-2,250)
