SW SMITH & CO. SILVER PRESENTATION BOWL AND CASE. Circa 1904, inscribed “To Charles Holme. Member of Organizing Council 1891. Hon. Secretary 1894-1904. Chairman of Council 1904-1907. With regard and affection from the Officers and Members of Council. 1907.” above the double-molded mid-band. Beneath inscribed a floral rosette surrounded by the text “The Japan Society“. This pedestal bowl with scrolled handles terminating in volutes. The underside of the base inscribed with the retailers name “TESSIER,/26 NEW BOND ST/LONDON.” The bowl is fitted in a dovetailed oak presentation case lined in velvet, a plaque mounted into the bottom of the case inscribed “Vander & Hedges, Silversmiths, 26 New Bond St., London, W.” Within the case is stored a tabletop socle. WEIGHT: 60 troy oz. SIZE: Overall height 7 3/4″; Diameter of bowl 11 1/4″; Width at handles 16″. Dimensions of case Ht 12 3/4″ W 17 1/2″ D 12 1/4″ CONDITION: Overall very good condition, a sharp dent below “Society”.
