SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1873 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 46504. Standard early rifle with 32-1/2″ bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug, 1200 yard ladder rear sight with high arch breech block with usual markings & standard markings on the lockplate. It has partially visible oval cartouche on the left wrist, number “39” stamped in the wood back of the top tang & unit markings “53 / 29 / SFC” above the buttplate tang. Left side of the buttstock is painted with “G. 8TH 54.” upside down. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains 85-90% orig blue mixed with brown patina. Breech block & receiver are a mottled blue/brown patina. Lockplate & hammer retain about 90% orig blue with some spots of light surface rust on the lockplate. Stock has a hairline back of the lockplate and a couple in front of the lockplate with usual handling & use marks, nicks, dings & scratches and has a fine hand worn patina. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-54967 (1,200-1,500)
