RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1877 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 99744. Fine rare rifle, one of only about 20,000 ever made, with 32-5/8” rnd bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug with ski jump rear sight with low arch breechblock. It has 1-pc walnut stock with fine light “ESA / 1878” cartouche. It has musket buttplate without trap. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbl retains about 90% strong orig blue with bayonet wear at the muzzle. Breech block retains 75-80% case colors, strong in the sheltered areas with the balance turned silver. Receiver retains 80-85% thin blue and the lockplate 75-80% with the hammer retaining about 50%. Wood is sound with light nicks & dings, a few bruises and retains a fine hand rubbed patina.
