SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1879 TRAPDOOR CARBINE. Cal. 45-70. SN 148883. Standard carbine with 22″ rnd bbl, square base front sight with protective screwed on hood & ski jump ladder rear sight. It has usual markings on the bbl, breechblock & lockplate. It is fitted with a 1-pc, carbine stock with no visible cartouches & carbine butt with trap containing an orig 3-pc. wiping rod. Stock has a sling bar & ring on the left side. Entire carbine has a heavy coating of old dried oil. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains about 80% orig blue with the balance a brown patina. Breechblock & lockplate are a dark patina. Stock is sound with light handling & use marks and retains most of its orig arsenal finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore.
