UNUSUAL RENAISSANCE REVIVAL CARVED SLANT LID SECRETARY. First half 20th century. In two parts, the triple arched upper case with three aligned hinged doors, each cast with church like Renaissance panels depicting various saints and royal figures within columned grottoes. Each door opening to a shelved interior, stepped back and fitted to the lower case with hinged folding lid opening to a velvet lined writing surface beneath three aligned drawers, above square lopers set within the frieze above three aligned short drawers over two long drawers, all gilt decorated with cast gesso leafy sprays and flanked by Byzantine rope twist columns. The case sides fitted with carrying handles, the whole raised on large ball and claw feet. SIZE: 75″ h x 37-3/4″ w x 13-1/2″ d. CONDITION: With superficial damages to casts, plaster and gesso areas as seen in photograph. Also dryness and losses to gilded surfaces. No restoration noted. 9-97185 (1,200-1,600)
