OUTSTANDING GOTHIC WING BACK SETTLE. Large bench having an eight carved panel back decorated with serpents, diamonds and circles. Stiles carved with opposing serpents and flowers. Side wings have birds and dragon heads and scroll motif. Banister type top crest. Seat fitted with two carved hinged lids which are carved with family crest involving winged horses, dog, rampant lion and dragons. Dated 1723. Outstanding iron hinges. Front decorated with diamond panels with lunette and chip carving. Piece is fitted with three heavily carved arms, two with animal heads, the center arm with a small dog like creature. Piece has a greenish/brown finish. As fine a carved settle as you will find. SIZE: 61” h x 87” w x 24” d. CONDITION: Generally very good with some old repairs with old restoration. 9-96742 (2,000-4,000)
