WHEELER DOUBLE BARREL PERCUSSION RIFLE/SHOTGUN. NSN. 40 Cal. & 20 ga. 31-1/2” ribbed bbls. Marked “J.H.WHEELER” on top of the bbl rib. John Wheeler worked in Otego, New York from 1867 to 1882. The lightly engraved lockplates are both marked “REMINGTON”. A partially visible marking on the bottom rib appears to be “CAST STEEL”. Another marking partially under the rib on the right bbl is possibly “REMINGTON”. The ramrod is a replacement. All furniture is plain German silver including the squirrel on the cheekpiece of the deluxe flame grain walnut stock. German silver blade front sight and single leaf elevator rear sight. The tang sight is missing. The German silver trigger will fire both bbls at the same time if both hammers are cocked. CONDITION: Very good. Smooth brown patina on the iron parts and mellow patina on the German silver. Mechanically fine. (Marcot Collection). 4-60144 FS650 (1,750-2,250)
