UNIDENTIFIED EARLY FLINTLOCK FOWLING PIECE. NSN. Cal. 78. 52-1/4” rnd bbl with indistinguishable proof marks at the breech. There are no markings on the bbl or the engraved lock. The banana lock plate is 6” long and has light border engraving with scrolls in the center. The furniture is brass. There is light carving at the bbl tang, lockplate, side plate, and tailpipe. Front of the trigger guard is missing, but carving matching that at the tang surrounds the missing piece. The border engraving on the side plate matches that on the lock plate. CONDITION: Rust/brown patina overall. Stock is missing splinters along the forearm and has a minor repair at the bbl tang, otherwise very good. Ramrod and top part of the hammer are replaced.
