EARLY EAGLE PENCILS CARDBOARD SIGN. Bold and dramatic graphics that are very eye-catching. Printed by Wemple & Co., NY, ca. late 1870’s with varnished surface. (This process popular in the 1870’s was thought to act as a preservative of the colors. It was basically discontinued by 1880, as although the colors remained true, the varnish itself tended to yellow. This is one the few signs of this type where the varnishing has had minimal effect). SIZE:23″x 16″ excluding mat and frame. CONDITION: Very Good. Colors impressive for this type sign. Central scuff above the “N” of Pencils. Some dampstaining around edges generally confined to the margins.1-27897 (1,000-1,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2002 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
