VERY RARE CONFEDERATE DOLPHIN HEAD NAVAL OFFICER’S SWORD. Made by Firman & Sons, London. This is a very rare regulation Confederate Naval Officer’s sword. Hilt exhibits naval emblem of crossed cannons which are superimposed by a fluted anchor. Decorations of cotton balls and tobacco leafs, also decorate the basket of the hilt. Nicely formed dolphin head pommel, sharks skin grip with brass wire wrap. 17” etched panels on blade show floral and rococco motifs, full firm mark “FIRMAN & SONS 153 STRAND & 13 CONDUIT STREET LONDON”, crossed cannons superimposed over fluted anchor. Opposite panel shows Confederate 2nd National flag superimposed over fluted anchor. There are only 10 or 12 of this patent sword currently known.
