REMINGTON/SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1871 ARMY RIFLE WITH BAYONET. NSN. 50/70 Cal. 36” rnd bbl. Early 2-line markings on the upper tang. “MODEL 1871” is marked on the left side of the receiver and “eagle / U.S / SPRINGFIELD / 1872” on the right. “ESA” oval cartouche is on the left side of the stock. The 18” triangular bayonet is a standard Model 1855 with metal scabbard and leather frog with brass hangar. Ten thousand of these were made at Springfield Armory using actions furnished by Remington. This rifle was deasccessioned from the San Diego Police Department Museum. CONDITION: Excellent. Widely scattered specks of surface rust on the bright bbl and brilliant casehardening colors on the action. Wood is sharp with crisp inspector marks. Buttplate and bayonet are lightly pitted. Blue on the scabbard is fine but about half of the black finish on the frog has flaked away. Mechanically fine. (Marcot Collection). 4-60164 FS649 (1,500-2,000)
