RARE AND SPECTACULAR CONFEDERATE BATTLE FLAG. This is undoubtedly the finest battle Confederate battle flag to ever come at auction. This classic square Western Theater infantry battle flag was originally found in an East Texas estate. One great feature of the flag is the original and unusual fringe that trims three sides. This identical fringe is found on at least two identified Confederate officers sashes. The large size of the flag, the condition and this fabulous fringe all professionally and tastefully mounted result in a dramatic presentation. The flag is complete with it’s original sewn in rope hoist. Rare is the opportunity to buy an original Confederate St. Andrews Cross battle flag particularly of this caliber. This flag is fully guaranteed original and authentic and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted flag expert Howard Madaus. Reference “Battle Flags of the Army of Tennessee” by M. H. Madaus. This is one of only five known Western Theater Confederate battle flags. SIZE: Size of the flag alone including fringe is approximately 59” high and 54” wide. Size including the frame is 61” high and 63” wide. CONDITION: Flag retains all of the original braided fringe. The red field of the flag shows scattered holes and damage, some of which are moth holes, some are possibly battle scars. There are three period repairs in the field. The blue St. Andrew’s cross also shows some moth damage and deterioration but is generally good. There is some spots of minor staining and the flag has been professionally mounted in an archival type framing. 4-48648 JS48 (100,000-125,000)
