REMINGTON PROTOTYPE NEW YORK STATE ROLLING BLOCK RIFLE. NSN. 50/70 Cal. 35-3/4” rnd bbl. 2-line “REMINGTONS ILION N.Y.U.S.A. / PAT. MAY 3D NOV.15TH 1864 APRIL17TH 1866” on the upper tang. There is a backwards 3 stamped on a plugged hole in the left side of the receiver and crowns on each of the bbl bands. There is also a plugged hole in the front of the triggerguard and others at the rear of the receiver. A sling swivel has been added to the bottom of the stock behind the triggerguard to match the one on the middle bbl band. The ear of the breechblock has been replaced with another piece extending to the right. This has the New York safety interlock and high hammer. The Remington Museum tag number 530 is on the bottom of the stock behind the new sling swivel. CONDITION: Excellent. Retains most of the arsenal bright finish mixed with widely scattered spots of surface rust. Wood has minor handling marks. Action is excellent. (Marcot Collection). 4-60141 FS653 (2,000-2,500)
