EDWIN AUSTIN FORBES (American, 1839-1895) UNION SUPPLY WAGON. Oil on canvas Civil War scene shows a wagon train with the lead covered wagon filled with crates being lead by three teams of two horses having two black drivers accompanied by a soldier on horseback. Several other wagons are seen behind. All along a wide dirt road with high grass banks under a blue and cloud sky. Signed lower left. From 1861-65 Frobes was a staff artist Frank Leslie’s Illustrated newspaper, covering the Army of the Potomac throughout the war. Housed in a gilt wood frame with linen and gold liner. SIZE: 12” x 18”. CONDITION: Relined, minor inpainting. Very good. 9-70800 (14,000-18,000)
