RARE EDISON WESTERN UNION STOCK TICKER. One of the earliest patented inventions from Thomas Edison, the Universal Stock Ticker is used by Wall Street. Manufactured and sold between approximately 1873 and 1900. Those that escaped the WWII scrap drives were ordered to be destroyed in the early 1960s. This example bears the Serial Number 9775. Constructed of a heavy cast iron base which states “Quotations Furnished By the Western Union Telegraph Co. Apply to Local Manager”. This example comes from a family member of a former Western Union superintendent who worked for the company for over 40 years in Ohio and Illinois. It comes complete with original glass dome and ticker tape. SIZE: 13″ h x 8″ dia. CONDITION: Appears to be complete and in near excellent condition with some very minor paint chipping to base.
