RARE REMINGTON URAGUAYAN CONTRACT ROLLING BLOCK BABY CARBINE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 40. This rare carbine was manufactured in about 1884 for the Uraguayan cavalry & shipped through Hartley & Graham in New York. Consignor reports that it is the only one known. It is described as having a 20” rnd bbl, pinched blade front sight with 2-position, flip rear sight. It has a sling bar & ring on left side of receiver & is mounted with uncheckered, straight grain, American walnut with 8-1/2” tapered forearm, sgl bbl band with spring keeper & straight stock with semi-crescent buttplate. Serial number is found on left side of bottom tang under the wood. Provenance: Bob Jenkins. CONDITION: Fair to good. No orig finish remains, being a smooth, dark brown patina overall with heavy rust by forearm bbl channel with fine pitting on right side of receiver. Buttstock has a heavily repaired wrist; otherwise wood is sound with a worn, dark, oiled patina. Mechanics are fine, strong bore with good shine & moderate pitting. 4-60214 JR389 (1,500-2,500)
