17” WOOD FRENCH COURT DOLL. A very rare doll of carved wood with a jointed body and molded and carved hair. This hermaphrodite (male/female sexed), is in all original untouched condition. He/she has a wooden torso with legs (painted socks & shoes) connected at the hip, a carved bust and sex organs and well-detailed hands connected at the elbow. Doll is wearing period print costume that is somewhat frail and a lace and satin bonnet attached by ribbon through its elaborate hairdo. CONDITION: Overall very good considering age of doll. Alligatoring/crazing to original paint finish on all wood painted surfaces. Truly a unique and very rare doll. 1-720 JL111 (2,000-2,500)
