17-1/2″, (44 CM), TERRENE FRENCH BISQUE FASHION DOLL. Rarely found French poupee, circa 1880, with closed mouth, cobalt eyes, nicely feathered eyebrows and eyelashes, pierced-in ears, on separate bisque shoulder plate with realistically defined indentation at the upper area of the chest. Unique in its body structure, the torso is leather, but has pleats in the leather legs to create the effect of undergarments. Sometimes this fashion is known to collectors as “baggy britches”. She has metal upper arms with joints at the elbow, and bisque lower arms. There is a separate joint at the knee and hips which allow for a great deal of articulation and posing of the body. She has been well re-costumed in a two-piece silk brocade dress trimmed in ecru lace and green velvet ribbon, (some deterioration to the fabric). She has a replaced blonde human hair wig and nicely made gold silk slippers with silk rosettes. She has an antique wire mesh purse. CONDITION: There is a restored spider crack on left side of forehead; the right bisque arm is an old German replacement. 1-7336 RS (1,000-2,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2007 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
