REMINGTON SPLIT BREECH LARGE FRAME SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 56-50 Spencer. SN 1158. One of 15,000 carbines manufactured by the Savage Revolving Firearms Co. in 1864-65. Most were resold to France after Civil War, accounting for their relative scarcity. This carbine has large frame with 20” rnd bbl, pinched blade front sight & 2-position flip rear sight. It has the 9-3/4” forearm with sgl band & spring keeper. There is a sling bar & ring on left side of receiver. Mounted with uncheckered, straight grain, American walnut with straight stock & musket style buttplate marked “US” on tang. CONDITION: About good. No original finish remains being a mottled, silver/black patina with fine pitting over most of surfaces. Stock has a hairline on left side of wrist, otherwise wood is sound & retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with light to moderate pitting. 4-60149 JR371 (1,750-2,750)
