EARLY REMINGTON NO 1 SPORTING RIFLE. SN 31. 46RF Cal. 24” rnd bbl. This action was apparently converted from a military type as the threaded post for the rear of the ramrod is still present in the front of the receiver. The dovetail mount for the forearm screw has been moved an inch and a half forward of its original position. The large dovetail pinch front sight appears to have been slightly shortened. The rear sight is a fixed notch at the rear. The crescent buttplate is also an early feature. Only a few of these early rifles were made in this caliber. The wood has been trimmed slightly to give the appearance of raised bosses at the front of the buttstock and the rear of the forearm. CONDITION: Fair to good. Heavy brown patina with some rust on various parts and file marks on the receiver and bbl. Chips and cracks on the forearm and both pieces of wood have been refinished. Bore is evenly pitted. Mechanically good. (Marcot Collection). 5-60174 (1,000-2,000)
