REMINGTON HEPBURN NO. 3 SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 40-70 Straight 2-1/2”. SN 2568. Fine Remington sporting rifle with 28-1/8” medium weight oct bbl with German silver blade Rocky Mountain, front sight & Remington’s tiny, semi-buckhorn, rear sight with a mid-range, thick base, tang sight with 3-1/4” staff. Mounted with nicely figured, American walnut with uncheckered forearm with semi-schnable metal tip & checkered, rnd knob stock with semi-crescent buttplate. Company name & address is on top flat & it has 2-line patent information on right side of receiver. Provenance: San Diego Police Historical Association. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 96-97% orig blue, slightly thinned & turning plum over forearm area. Receiver retains most of its orig case colors, strong on sides, moderately faded over top. Trigger guard has brilliant case colors in sheltered areas with balance turned silver to gray. Wood is sound with a couple of gouges in forearm, light handling & use marks elsewhere and retains most of its orig varnish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-60187 JR354 (3,000-5,000)
