GEORGE INNESS (American, 1825-1894) SUNDOWN-CATTLE DRINKING. Oil on canvas landscape scene shows seven cattle in shallow water drinking. A man in small rowboat is beside in a low summer landscape with green trees under a post sunset sky. Signed lower right “G Inness” and dated “1868”. Housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt frame with gilt liner. REFERENCE: George Inness, Leroy Ireland, University of Texas, 1965 No 423. Ex-collection: The artist to a private collection to Mr. Buck, East Hampton, New York to Ainslie Gallery, New York to a private collection to Grand Central Galleries, NY (Inventory No. B3871) to a private collection, CT until 2002 to a private collection.
