ILLUMINATED STATUE OF LIBERTY BANK. As far as we know we have never seen this bank before. Unusual construction of a wood base with slide open bottom and a white metal Statue of Liberty holding a light-bulb and torch. When coin is deposited bulb lights up. It has front plate marked “Liberty Bank, Patent Applied For. Directions Use Pennies or Dimes Only. Press Coin Down to the Left.” It is probably from the early part of the 20th century. Coming from the collection of Tony “A.J.” Koveleski, it was his favorite piece for a long time, even calling it his “million dollar bank”. An immigrant from Lithuania, he long considered the Statue of Liberty a symbol of freedom and his new life in America, with the statue being the first thing he saw when reaching the States. This bank is accompanied by a newspaper article about Koveleski and his bank. SIZE: 8” h x 4-3/4” w. CONDITION: Some chipping to leatherette paper covering, overall very good. 1-6983 (800-1,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Fall 2006 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
