Flag has thirteen stars on blue background & thirteen alternating gold & platinum stripes, there being seven gold stripes & six platinum stripes Standard & top edge of blue field are also in platinum with platinum knots on tassels. No serial number appears on stock as would normally be found, it being assumed that this was to be a display arm, not to be sold out of factory. This rare carbine was built in 1904 & speculation has it that it was made to honor the Centennial of the Lewis & Clark Expedition which started in St. Louis in 1804 & arrived in Portland, Oregon in 1805. There was a six month long Centennial celebration to honor Lewis & Clark held in Portland in 1905 & it is believed that this carbine was made for & displayed at that celebration. Factory records have no entry for this carbine ever having been sold out of the factory, although it was listed on six different Marlin dealer’s bargain sheets from 1907-1915 with no additional information appearing after that. It was discovered in 2003 in a private collection in Maryland. This carbine was displayed at the 2004 Denver Marlin Firearms Collector’s Association annual national show & won Best of Show. Information regarding the dealer’s bargain sheets appears in the book, Marlin Firearms, Brophy on pp. 488 & 489. Accompanied by some orig & some copies of these six dealer’s bargain sheets.
