LABELED SHERATON GILT DECORATED EGLOMISE MIRROR BY JAMES TODD. Second quarter 19th century, Portland, Maine. Label fixed to backboard inscribed “Portland/LOOKING GLASS MANUFACTORY/EXCHANGE STREET.” The name “James Todd” inscribed within an engraving of a Sheraton looking glass. The central rectangular mirror plate beneath a rectangular eglomise tablet paint decorated with a harbor scene, ship anchor and lighthouse within a blue border, stencil decorated with acorn sprays. The whole flanked by engaged half columns. The stepped cornice with egg shaped pendant finials. SIZE: 36″ h x 22″ w overall. PROVENANCE: From a fine Massachusetts home. CONDITION: With original gilding and mirror plate. Eglomise panel with multiple cracks along proper right quarter. Also missing two pendant finials. Minor damages throughout frame. 9-22120 (300-500)
