19TH CENTURY PAINTED AND INLAID HINGED BOX ON STAND. Walnut box having a lid decorated with a golden eagle holding olive branch atop a red, white and blue shield with red banner. The outer edge with feather inlay, the interior open but appearing to once have a horizontal divider. Bottom having an impressed mark “H Klee & Son 2 Dist NY”. Remnants of an old label affixed to bottom. The box has a brass shield escutcheon with lockplate and original key. A note accompanying the box indicates that a duplicate of this box is in the State Department Reception room but we are unable to confirm this. Accompanying the box is a custom walnut stand. SIZE: Box: 4-1/2″ h x 22-3/4″ w x 9-1/2″ d. Stand: 13-1/2″ h x 23-1/2″ w x 10-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Joan B. Hanson, Fair Haven, N.J.
