ANTIQUE WINCHESTER MODEL 1894 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38-55. SN 28003. Standard grade rifle, second year of production with 26″ rnd bbl, full magazine with half nickel front sight with screw & semi buckhorn rear sight. Mounted with very nicely figured straight grain American walnut, uncheckered with straight stock and crescent butt plate. Accompanied by an unmarked, period green canvas and leather sleeve that has hand printed inscription “C.H. VINSON / BROWNSTOWN / IND.”. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains about 95% orig blue with 2 or 3 small spots of light surface discoloration with minor fine pitting in 1 or 2 of them. Front sight has been shortened. Receiver retains about 85% orig blue, strong in areas on the sides with some cleaned areas probably using coarse steel wool. There are a few scattered spots of fine surface rust & scrapes around 3 of the receiver screws. Lever retains 60-65% bright case colors on the sides with the edges turned silver. Buttplate has turned silver. Wood is sound with light nicks & scratches & retains most of its orig varnish. Crisp mechanics & bright shiny bore. Case is fine. Leather shows light wear with some mildew with some loose stitching on the toe & a broken strap on the flap end. 4-58162 JR347 (1,750-2,750)
