CARVED MAHOGANY CHIPPENDALE CHILD’S CHAIR TOGETHER WITH A SECOND CHAIR. 1) 19th century New York. This fine centennial example with molded shield back surmounted with a spray of wheat and a central oval fan inlaid patera. Joined to the trapezoidal over-upholstered seat. Raised on the frontal acanthus carved cabriole legs terminating in boldly carved talon and ball feet. The rear legs are backswept. 2) With arched molded crest rail, the ears floral carved, the styles and slats with pendant bellflowers. Central splat surmounted by a Prince of Wales plume. Shaped and molded arms on in-curved supports centering the over upholstered seat, raised on frontal molded square tapered legs terminating in Marlboro feet. Joined by an H-form stretcher. SIZE: 1) 29-1/2″ h at back. Seat is 15″ h. 2) 26-1/2″ h at back. Seat is 12″ h. PROVENANCE: Robert Frederick Woolworth Estate, Monmouth, Maine. (F.W. Woolworth Store). CONDITION: 1) Very fine, original condition. Silk seat cover in need of replacement, otherwise very good. 2) Retains original surfaces, now somewhat dry and in need of repolishing.
