*RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 TRAPPER CARBINE Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 211284. Standard grade carbine with rare 14″bbl. Square front sight base with homemade brass blade & carbine latter rear sight. Has full magazine with a staple and ring in the left side of receiver. Is mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered with straight stock and smooth carbine butt plate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this carbine as having been shipped with 14″ bbl on March 6, 1903 & returned and repaired May 14, 1906. Also accompanied by a 3 page letter from BATF&E Exempting a number of similar carbines from provisions of the National Firearms Act of 1936, including this one. This carbine can now be sold as a curio & relic without registration. However, it is still considered a firearm and will be treated accordingly. CONDITION: Fair to good. No orig finish remains with an even dark brown patina over all showing heavy wear with fine pitting on the receiver lever and hammer. Magazine tube has a small dent and the receiver shows substantial wear from the saddle ring. Rear sight is nicked and dinged with some light pitting and shows heavy wear. Stock has a crack back of the top tang & is a little loose & there is a crack in the tip of the forearm, otherwise wood is sound & shows very heavy wear with a myriad of light nicks and dings. Front bbl band screw is a replacement & rear band screw is battered. Mechanics are fine. Worn bore with moderate pitting. 4-57855 JR343 (3,250-4,250)
