*RARE NIEDNER HEAVY BBL OFFHAND MATCH RIFLE. SN 9776. Cal. 30-06. Fine 1920’s/30’s heavy match rifle built on a Mauser military action with 30″ tapered, rnd, heavy bbl with custom sleeve front sight that has a Lyman 17 Globe front sight. Bbl is mounted with target scope blocks and receiver has a Lyman 48 target sight with Merrit adjustable aperture. Bbl is marked “NIEDNER RIFLE CORP, DOWAGIAC MICH.” The receiver ring has a matted panel on top and is drilled & tapped for target scope base. Mounted in a medium weight straight grain American walnut stock with semi-schnable tipped forestock having a raised panel containing a military-style sling loop with a corresponding loop in the butt. It has raised Germanic style side panels by the receiver with a checkered capped pistol grip and heavy Schutzen cheekpiece with an adjustable semi-Schutzen steel buttplate with only the bottom prong. It has an orig military style milled trigger guard & floorplate with a push-button floorplate release and dbl-set triggers. These rifles were extremely popular in the 1920’s & 30’s for long range matches such as the Wimbledon Cup and Palma matches which were shot at extreme long range. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine, all matching. Bbl, receiver & floorplate retain most of their fine custom blue finish, somewhat thinned & dull, turning plum on trigger guard & floorplate. Stock is sound with minor nicks & scratches and retains most of its custom finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-32213 JR260 (3,000-5,000)
