TWO NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL CANDLE STANDS. First quarter 19th century. The first, an inlaid cherry example with square top, and string inlaid border, joined to a swelled ring turned standard raised on an arched cabriole leg tripod base, terminating in ridged snake feet. The second with round mahogany top joined to a swelled ring turned maple standard, raised on arched tripod cabriole leg base ending in snake feet. SIZE: First: 26″ h, 15-1/2″ x 16-1/2″. Second: 27-1/2″ h, 17″ d. PROVENANCE: Estate of William Hoeschle of Camden, Maine. CONDITION: The first with cleaned old surfaces, some staining on top, otherwise very good. The second professionally repolished with repairs to legs at standard, one with old foot repair. 9-96573, 9-96574 (500-800)
