NEW ENGLAND CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY MIRROR. Last quarter 18th century. The rectangular mirror plate within a conforming molded surround, the scrolling crest of unusual bat wing form flanked by scrolled ears. The pendant apron with modified scrolling. SIZE: 30″ h x 17″ w. PROVENANCE: Connecticut family home which descended from Sarah Upson Goodrich (Mrs. Oliver R. Beckwith) who descended from the Rev. Charles Chauncey, President of Harvard College and Elder William Brewster. Sarah was a member of the Connecticut chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. CONDITION: Proper left scrolling ear with loss to tip, bottom apron with loss to central scroll and to proper right tip of scroll. Mirror plate original and with original backboards. Good color and patina. 9-21863 (400-600)
