NEW ENGLAND CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY MIRROR. Last quarter 18th century. The rectangular mirror plate within a conforming molded surround, the scrolling crest of unusual bat wing form flanked by scrolled ears. The pendant apron with modified scrolling. SIZE: 30″ h x 17″ w. PROVENANCE: Connecticut family home which descended from Sarah Upson Goodrich (Mrs. Oliver R. Beckwith) who descended from the Rev. Charles Chauncey, President of Harvard College and Elder William Brewster. Sarah was a member of the Connecticut chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. CONDITION: Proper left scrolling ear with loss to tip, bottom apron with loss to central scroll and to proper right tip of scroll. Mirror plate original and with original backboards.
