*SCARCE DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 33WCF. SN 137789. Lightweight takedown deluxe with 24″ tapered rnd bbl, half mag, pedestal front sight with Lyman ivory bead hunting front sight, a slot blank in the rear seat & a Lyman 21 receiver sight. It is mounted with extremely beautiful, burled American walnut with H-style checkered forearm & semi-pistol grip stock 13-3/8″ over a Winchester embossed hard rubber butt plate. The receiver sight is lightly pitted & probably refinished. Accompanied by a copy of a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle with notation “Put in stock as a carbine, 45-70 on March 14, 1907 / May 24, 1907, changed to: rifle”. It goes on to fully identify rifle with checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman 21 receiver sight, Lyman #6 leaf sight & a semi-jack front sight with half magazine, shotgun butt, hard rubber buttplate, takedown & shipped March 24, 1917. It was returned & repaired April 6, 1918 & Jan. 22, 1919, reasons not given. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain 96-97% strong original blue. The receiver retains 60-70-% original blue thin on the right side strong & bright on the left side & in the sheltered areas. Mostly gray metal color on the bottom. The lever retains traces of case colors and the hammer about 90% of its original blue. Wood is sound with light handling use marks & retains most of its beautiful hand rubbed oil finish.
