MARTIALLY MARKED MAYNARD 2ND MODEL CIVIL WAR CARBINE. Cal. 50 Perc. 1865 dated carbine with 20” oct to round bbl, pinched front sight, 2-leaf, 3-position rear sight, made without forearm. Usual markings on receiver with a sling bar and ring on left side. Stock, without patchbox, is straight grip with a smooth steel carbine buttplate. Left side of wrist has two sharp cartouches. SN 23998. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 90-92% thin original blue. Receiver is mostly a silver gray color with traces of case hardening in sheltered areas. Buttstock has a grain check at buttplate and has several small crude scratched drawings on left side and some initials on right side. Right flat of the breech area on bbl is scratched “WA5”.
