BLANKET STRIP, SIOUX, CIRCA 1870’S. Beaded with sinew in the “lane stitch” technique on buffalo hide, with classic Lakota motifs and color pallet. The white background is somewhat unusual for Sioux beadwork of the period, but is occasionally seen. Blanket strips are elaborate ornaments applied across the middle of tanned skin robes and wearing blankets. CONDITION: One ½” and one 1” long tears; four nail holes in one end of the hide; approximately five individual rows of beads missing. SIZE: 5-1/2” wide x 4’ 1” long. 4-57327 BL4 (3,000-6,000)
