*RARE REMINGTON ROLLING BLOCK NO. 7 SPORTING & TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 22. SN 300287. Fewer than 350 of these rare rifles were made in period 1903-07. Special & unusual, little rifle with 28” oct to rnd bbl, ivory bead combination front sight, no provision for a rear sight and with the unusual, prong mounted, Lyman tang sight with loop. Top of bbl has company name & address and bottom of bbl is marked “22 S”, indicating that it is chambered for 22 Short. It does not appear that the chamber has been lengthened. Mounted with very nicely figured, checkered, straight grain, American walnut with black insert, schnable tipped forearm & unusual revolver grip style stock with fluted hard rubber grip cap & straight stock with Remington embossed hard rubber buttplate. It has a checkered trigger. This exact rifle was displayed in the exhibit “The Arms & Art of Remington Arms”, Cody Firearms Museum in 1997 and is pictured on p. 159 of the book “The Guns of Remington”, Madaus & Goodwin. Provenance: Ex-John Gyde Collection, Ex-Leon Weir, Jr. Collection. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbl retains 95-96% strong, bright, orig factory blue with some slight muzzle & sharp edge wear with very tiny freckles of chemical spotting on surface. Receiver retains strong case colors in sheltered areas, thinning on sides & top. Top tang has thin case colors & trigger guard is mostly a gray patina. Breechblock & hammer retain about 90% glossy orig blue. Wood is sound & retains most of its bright, orig, factory varnish, slightly dulled in forearm, strong & bright on buttstock.
