JAMES ROBERT SMITH (American, 20th Century) TALL SHIP IN FULL SAIL. Unframed oil on canvas portrait of a three-mast tall ship sailing left to right in wavy sea. Shown in full sail with flags and pennants off top of masts. Several people are seen on deck under a light pastel colored sky. Signed bottom right “James Robert Smith”. Smith, an artist originally from Portland, Maine, had a storied life including two charges for murder of his in-laws. Copies of newspaper clippings are included with the painting. SIZE: 22″ x 34″.
