HOLDEN OPEN FRAME SGL SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 39. Standard grade rifle with rare iron frame (usually found with bronze frames), 24″ oct bbl, orig unusual Holden front sight and carbine style ladder rear sight. It has the rare feature of a complete open-sided frame with two unusual finger loops exposed, one to cock the hammer after the lever is open and the front one to extract the empty cartridge for reloading, which also serves as the breech block. Wood is nicely figured straight grain American walnut, uncheckered, with rounded forearm & straight stock with crescent buttplate. Entire rifle is coated with old dried wax or oil. CONDITION: Very good. All the iron retains most of an old refinish being a plummy/brown color. There are a couple of dings on the receiver and other light handling & use marks. Stock has a replaced sliver on the bottom of the wrist, otherwise the wood is sound with usual light nicks, dings & scratches and some dark oil staining around the receiver edges. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore. Pierre Renaud Collection 4-55726 JR284 (800-1,200)
