MAYNARD MODEL 1873 IMPROVED HUNTING OR TARGET RIFLE NO. 9. Cal. Appears to be 35-30 thick head. SN 27338. Fine sporting rifle with 26″ oct to rnd bbl, gold wash Beech’s combination front sight, 2-position flip rear sight and an elevating mid-range tang sight. Stock is very highly figured American walnut with straight grip & square semi-crescent buttplate. Entire rifle has a coating of old dried oil or wax. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 97-98% strong bright orig blue. Receiver retains about 50% faded case colors with the balance a mottled silver/brown. Stock is sound with minor nicks & scratches and retains most of its bright orig varnish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with light to moderate pitting just in front of the chamber.
