SPENCER MODEL 1865 SRC WITH FAMILY PROVENANCE FROM THE BATTLE OF LITTLE BIGHORN. A very nice M1865 carbine having 22” round barrel, iron frame, mounted on a walnut stock. SN 792. CONDITION: Very good, no original finish. Sharp edges, good markings, minor surface rust. Bore is fair, stock is very good, mechanically fine. The carbine is accompanied by approximately 12 unfired cartridges and a few casings. The carbine comes with a sworn affidavit from the consignor attesting to his inheritance of the carbine from his father who acquired it in 1928 from a Mr. Hurst Hackett. Mr. Hackett received the carbine from his grandfather who was a member of the burial party following the Battle of Little Bighorn. Family history states that the carbine was found under the body of a dead 7th Cavalryman. A cursory look at the rosters reveal no burial party members named Hacket, however, members of the 7th Cavalry were known to have been carrying these carbines. 4-48684 (4,000-6,000)
