REMINGTON NO. 1 BLACK HILLS SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. NSN. Rare, inexpensive sporting rifle with 28” rnd bbl, pinched blade, front sight with Remington’s tiny, semi-buckhorn rear sight. There is no provision for a tang sight. Mounted with nicely figured, slab sawed, uncheckered, American walnut with straight stock & semi-crescent buttplate. This is a rather scarce rifle manufactured in the 1870’s and advertised by company as “Designed for hunters & sportsmen, generally when requiring a well made, reliable gun at a moderate price. Using a cheap, but strictly first class ammunition.” CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains most of its orig blue, somewhat dull over forearm area. Receiver retains about 90% orig case colors, moderately to heavily faded, thin on top, dark on top tang & trigger guard. Breech block & hammer retain most of their glossy bright blue. Wood is sound with usual handling & use marks & retains most of an old restored finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-60163 JR366 (4,000-6,000)
